Description
The 2019 Fair Trade Fair marks our fifteenth year providing the community to way “make a world of difference” by purchasing fairly traded goods from some of the most marginalized people in the world. New to Fair Trade Fairs? This is how it works: most of the items available are handmade wares purchased on consignment (what isn’t sold is returned). The sales provide vital income to the artisans, which help them to feed their families, educate their children, and improve their communities. In supporting Fair Trade, you support: • Better incomes for farmers and artisans • Better working conditions • Children from child labor and slavery • Women’s rights • Democratic principles, giving the poor more power • Development projects that bring schools, clinics and clean water to poor, rural communities Also a part of the event is a large quantity of fairly traded consumable items (coffee, tea, chocolate, cocoa, etc.) from Equal Exchange. The consumables that are available every second Sunday in the narthex come from Equal Exchange. There will be thousands of dollars worth of beautiful, unique, handmade items— baskets, jewelry, scarfs, wood-carved creations, pottery, textiles, nativities, ornaments, etc.—as well as a coffee, tea, chocolate and other consumable goods available. In order for this event to be successful we need two things: volunteers (a lot of them!) and shoppers (a lot of them!). Please help us spread the word about the event. See the sign-up sheet on the narthex bulletin board for volunteer shifts.
