Name: Book Discussion of "The Calculating Stars"
Date: August 1, 2019
Time: 6:30 PM - 7:45 PM CDT
Event Description:
Join us at the Library to discuss "The Calculating Stars" by Mary Robinette Kowal. It’s 1952 when a meteorite hits the Earth and begins the process of making it uninhabitable for humans. The Space Race accelerates rapidly as nations come together to figure out how to get men to the moon, and to colonize space, before it is too late. One brilliant, female calculator starts to wonder why women aren’t being considered to go into space, too. Will the conventions of the time be enough to prevent the first Lady Astronaut, or will she overcome them? Copies of the book and a reading guide will be available at Freeport Public Library's Adult Services desk on June 17.
