Description
Growers and producers selling into the local food system via farmers markets, farm stands, orchards, and other channels are invited to attend a workshop on digital marketing this May in Rockford. The Deeper Roots: Digital Marketing in the Local Food System program will be held on Saturday, May 18th from 9:00AM to 12:00PM at the University of Illinois Extension Winnebago County Office (1040 North Second St, Rockford, IL 61107). The cost for the class is $15 and will include handouts. Attendees are encouraged to bring their laptop, cellphone, and/or other devices they will be using to implement their digital marketing this season. Space is limited to 15 participants. For more information and to register, please visit go.illinois.edu/deeperroots or call 815-986-4357. “It’s becoming more common for farm businesses to have a digital presence when selling into the local food system. Consumers are expecting to have a greater ‘behind the scenes’ of what is happening at the farm” states Grant McCarty, Local Foods and Small Farms Educator. “The challenge is that best practices for digital marketing tend to not recognize the uniqueness that is a local food entrepreneur that depends on customers coming to the farmers markets, visiting the orchard, and/or ordering their CSA box.” The Deeper Roots: Digital Marketing in the Local Food System program is tailored for local food entrepreneurs who sell produce, meat, eggs, and/or value added products through farmers markets, CSAs, local restaurants, orchards, farm stands, and other channels. This class will be geared toward those who will be using digital marketing to share their farming story and create greater brand awareness. The class is designed for those who have already setup a digital presence such as a Facebook Fan Page, website, or other.
