Description
Enjoy a bike ride and help raise funds for local cancer care at this year’s Gran Fonda Tour Against Cancer. There’s a challenge to suit everyone – a Family Fun Ride along the Jane Addams Trail to 30- (trail or road), 50-, and 75-mile options on some of the most beautiful roads in northwest Illinois.
The Family Fun Ride is a scenic out-and-back trip along the Jane Addams Trail at your family’s desired length, and all Tour rides begin and end at Tutty’s Crossing Trailhead, 250 E. Stephenson Street in Freeport.
In lieu of a registration fee, organizers welcome a donation to the Leonard C. Ferguson Cancer Center at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport. Participants will be asked to register and sign a waiver form, which can be downloaded at www.fhn.org/TourAgainstCancer.
A route guide and safety card is provided and roads are marked. There will be a staffed rest stop available in Orangeville for all riders and another at Red Oak Road along the Jane Addams Trail for 30- and 50- mile routes.
Dave Fonda, the founder of and inspiration for this event, loved cycling and his community. He started this fund-raising activity in 2007, dedicated to parlaying his passion into a cause that could help those fighting cancer. Though Dave lost his own battle in 2018, we keep him a part of this event by renaming it in his honor. We hope the Gran Fonda Tour Against Cancer will inspire others to ride for a greater purpose.
